The contest will take place from May 13 to May 17. In terms of population, Basel is the third-largest city in Switzerland. This marks the sixth consecutive time that the contest will not be held in a capital city. Previous editions were organised by Malmö, Liverpool, Turin, and Rotterdam.
A few thousand participants marched through the streets of Belgrade last Saturday, a city that in 2022 hosted a contentious EuroPride event. Back then, tensions were high after the Serbian Orthodox Church launched an anti-Pride campaign. Despite the opposition to LGBT+ emancipation in the country, this year’s Pride was the largest ever, according to the organisers.
A plan to expand the ban on "public insult" to include sexual orientation and gender identity has been approved by Prime Minister Donald Tusk's government. According to the Ministry of Justice, the existing ban on discrimination is not sufficient to "protect LGBT+ individuals from discrimination, prejudice, and violence." The ministry views the ban on "public insult" as a means to implement the already existing constitutional prohibition of discrimination.
